Williamsburg, KY – With rain on the way to Williamsburg, the UC Baseball team looked to get another mid-week game in before a big conference series this weekend as the Eagles of Alice Lloyd College came to town. With a single game scheduled, the Patriots would look to set a new school record for the longest winning streak in program history. Cumberlands would throw five different pitchers in the contest to get each some reps as they would keep the Eagles guessing all day while UC's bats would get the job done, pushing the Patriots to a 10-0 win over the Eagles. The win moves UC to 27-3 overall on the year while setting a new mark with their 23
rd straight victory.
The Patriots would get things started early in the first. After a leadoff walk to
Roberto Prado and a single by
Orley Arellano would put runners on the corners with no one down, it was a fielder's choice by
Raudy Martinez that brought home Prado, giving UC a 1-0 lead after the first. After a quiet second inning, the third was much different. All nine Patriots would come to bat as Martinez would hit a sac fly to bring home a run while the trio of
Daniel Diaz,
J.C. Santos, and
Robbie Stroub would all hit RBI singles in the inning to extend UC's lead to 5-0.
After a quiet fourth, the Patriots would find their way back on the scoreboard in the fifth on a RBI double by Santos, making it 6-0 Patriots. In the sixth, Cumberlands would add to the lead again. Arellano would hit a RBI single followed by a RBI double by Martinez to make it 8-0 Pats. A pair of sac flies by
Alex Dominguez and
Bryan Benz would add two more runs to the board, giving UC the 10-0 eventual final score.
UC would staff the game, sending five different Patriots to the mound for the combined two-hit shutout. The win would go to starter
Hampton Clark after throwing an inning of work, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out one.
Mason Kleist and
Manny Castellano would throw a pair of innings in the contest while
Nicholas Purpera and
Garrett Vathroder would throw the final two innings in the game. The staff would combine to give up just two hits and two walks while sitting eight down on strikes.
The Patriots now turn their attention to Mid-South Conference action as the Tigers of Georgetown visit Williamsburg for a three-game series. The first game is scheduled for Friday, March 30
th at 6 pm. The final two games are set for Saturday, March 31
st with game one beginning at 1 pm. All games will be features on the UC Sports Network.
