Midway, KY – The UC men's tennis team posted their fourth shutout of the season with a 9-0 win over Midway Monday afternoon at Thomas R. Post Tennis Court. With the win the Patriots improve to 5-8, while the Eagles move to 6-7.
The Patriots struck first with a pair 8-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Patrick Oliveira and Miles Mattews won at three doubles, while
Eric Banoub and
Rodrigo Ratte earned the victory at two doubles. At #1 doubles,
Martin Barbier and
Yusuke Matsuoka teamed up for the 8-1 win to give UC a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, Oliveira tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles, before Matthews recorded his first collegiate win with a 6-1, 6-0 match at #6 position. The win clinched the match for UC.
Luis Montull and Ratte posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at #3 and #4 singles, respectfully to extend UC's lead to 7-0. Matsuoka (6-0, 6-2) and
Aatu Merenheimo (7-5, 6-4) each earned a straight set win for the 9-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Wednesday, April 4, as they travel to Barbourville, KY as they face Union. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
