Baseball Handles Hiwassee with Ease in Mid-Week Win

Williamsburg, KY – The Patriot baseball team continued their phenomenal run of play on Wednesday afternoon as they scored in five of their six innings of at-bats as they would defeat the Tigers of Hiwassee College by a score of 10-2. The victory marks the 32nd win for UC in their last 33 contests and moves their overall record to 36-4 on the season.

The start would go to Cody Spencer who gave the Patriots another quality mid-week start against the Tigers. After a quiet first inning, UC would get the scoring started in the second. An RBI double by J.C. Santos followed by a RBI single from Reed Spata would push UC out front 2-0. Hiwassee would respond though in the top of the third, tying the contest on their first hit of the contest, a two-run double from Hogan Townsend, to make it 2-2. That would be all the offense the Tigers would muster up in this one.

In the bottom of the third, the Pats answered with an RBI single from Alex Dominguez, retaking the lead 3-2 after three. Cumberlands would add another on a RBI single up the middle by Orley Arellano, doubling up the Tigers 4-2 after four innings of play. In the fifth, the long ball came into play as with two on and no one down, Andrew Ramos would send the first pitch of his at-bat deep over the left field fence, his sixth home run of the season, to make it 7-2 Patriots.

The sixth inning would see UC ice the cake. A trio of RBI singles from Raudy Martinez, Alex Dominguez, and pinch hitter Rolando Rodriguez would extend the lead to 10-2, the final in the contest. Spencer would earn the complete game win to improve to 5-0 on the season. He went seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out two in the victory.

Now, UC turns their attention to Mid-South Conference play as they travel northeast to take on the University of Pikeville for the three-game series. Game one will be played on Friday, April 13th at 3 pm with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday, April 14th beginning at 12 pm.
