Williamsburg, KY – The UC women's tennis team scored early and rallied late earn a 5-4 win over 17
th-ranked Campbellsville on senior day Wednesday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. The win marks UC's first win over a ranked opponent this season and improves the Patriots record to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in MSC play, while the Tigers move to 11-5 and 4-1 against the MSC.
Campbellsville struck first with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Cumberlands answered quickly as
Denee Lyttle partnered with
Luka Lyttle for an 8-2 win at #3 doubles to tie the match 1-1. At #1 doubles,
Jaclyn Jewell teamed with
Tomomi Nagao for an 8-6 win over Majella Nobile and Bolor Enkhbayar to give UC a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
The Tigers retook the lead 3-2 with wins at #3 and #1 singles.
Denee Lyttle dropped the first set at #4 singles, but rallied to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-0 and tie the match at 3-3. Campbellsville added a straight set win at #2 singles, before
Hannah Wampler posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bailey Decker at #6 to tie the match. Shortly after that, UC's lone senior
Marian Bogajo knocked off Brooklyn Harris 6-1, 6-0 to give the Patriots the 5-4 win.
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, April 13, when they travel to Lebanon, TN to face 20
th-ranked Cumberland. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
