Bat Pats Split Mid-Week Twin Bill against Buffaloes

Williamsburg, KY – UC Baseball was back to work on Wednesday as they hosted the Buffaloes of Milligan College. A win in game one by a score of 8-1 was followed by an 8-5 loss in nine innings in game two to earn the split. Cumberlands now moves to 40-5 overall on the season.

Game one would see Anthony Martinez get the start as he grinded out yet another win on the season. Martinez would earn his fifth complete game as well as fifth win of the year going seven innings allowing just one earned run on eight hits and three walks while striking out four.

UC would get big games from Reed Spata as well as Alex Dominguez in the win. Spata would tally a 2-3 game with a two-run home run, his second of the season, as well as three RBI and a run scored. Dominguez chipped in going 2-4 in the game with three RBI as well with a run scored. Outfielders Orley Arellano and Raudy Martinez both also had multi-hit ballgames in the victory.

In game two, Cody Spencer would get a no-decision for his start as late runs from the Patriots would spell him from a potential loss. He would go four innings allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks while fanning five on strikes. Garrett Vathroder would have a chance at a save, but a run would score as he would also get a no-decision after two innings of work allowing the lone run on just one hit and two walks while sitting two on strikes. The loss would go to Colton Easterwood after an inning of work allowing three earned on three hits and a walk.

Dominguez was big again for UC, going 3-5 with a double and two RBI. Roberto Prado also went 2-5 with a double and a run scored. J.C. Santos would come up big with a pinch hit two-run single in the contest. Bryan Benz also added two hits in the loss.

The Patriots now turn their attention to Mid-South Conference opposition as the Phoenix of Cumberland University come to Williamsburg. The first game of the three game set is scheduled for 7 pm on Friday, April 20th. The final two games will follow on Saturday, April 21st beginning at 1 pm.
