Barbourville, KY – UC men's tennis team had the lead after doubles, but it wasn't enough as they fell to 19
th-ranked Union 5-3 continued their break from conference play as they faced fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson. The Patriots couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to the Blue Raiders 6-3 at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. With the win the Blue Raiders improve to 5-0, while the Patriots move to 4-8.
Cumberlands came out strong as
Eric Banoub and
Rodrigo Ratte teamed up for an 8-2 win at #3 doubles to give UC a 1-0 lead.
Aatu Merenheimo and
Luis Montull extended UC's lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 win over Srdan Pejic and Borna Bartolovic. At #2 doubles the duo of Martian Barbier and Yusuke Matsouka traded points with Lois Castellon and Mark Khuenel before ultimately falling 9-7 and cutting the lead to 2-1.
Union earned straight set wins at #1, #2, #3, and #6 singles to clinch the match 5-2. At #4 singles,
Luis Montull took the first set 6-4 over Brona Bartolovic, but dropped the second set 6-2 when the match was halted.
Rodrigo Ratte match at #5 singles was also halted because the match was clinched.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, April 7, when they host (RV) Marian. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
