Bowling Green, KY – The second-seed UC women's tennis team opened the Mid-South Conference tournament by only dropping one game en route to a 6-0 win over the seventh-seed Shawnee State Friday morning at Kereiakes Park. With the win the Patriots improve to 9-9, while the Bears move to 11-9 and 3-3 against the MSC.
The Patriots jumped out to an early lead as
Jaclyn Jewell partnered with
Tomomi Nagao for an 8-0 at #1 doubles.
Luka Lyttle and
Denee Lyttle also notched an 8-0 win at #3 doubles, before
Hannah Wampler and
Haley Mahan teamed up for an 8-1 win at #2 doubles to give UC a 3-0 lead.
Cumberlands continued their dominating play as Nagao and Wampler notched 6-0, 6-0 wins at #1 and #5 singles, respectfully to clinch the match for the Patriots. At #6 singles,
Haley Mahan posted a 6-0, 6-0 over Michaela Garner for the 6-0 final.
Luka Lyttle,
Denee Lyttle, and
Marian Bogajo were all leading their matches before play was halted.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, April 21, when they face third-seed and 17
th-ranked Campbellsville, who defeated Pikeville 5-0, in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at WKU Tennis Court.
