Bowling Green, KY – The second-seed UC women's tennis team won four singles matches en route to a 5-3 win over the third seed and 17
th-ranked Campbellsville to advance to the championship match of the Mid-South Conference tournament Saturday afternoon at the WKU Tennis Complex. It marks the second straight year that the Patriots advanced to the championship match as UC improves to 10-9 on the season.
Cumberlands jumped out to an early lead as
Luka Lyttle teamed with
Denee Lyttle to defeat Bailey Decker and Brooklyn Harris 8-2 at #3 doubles to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Campbellsville (12-7) took #1 and #2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play,
Marian Bogajo and
Hannah Wampler each notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 and #6 singles, respectfully to give the Patriots a 3-2 lead. Campbellsville tied the match, before
Denee Lyttle tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win over Grace Rowe at #4 singles to give the Patriots a 4-3 lead.
Tomomi Nagao, the MSC freshman of the year, continued her strong play defeating Bolor Enkhbayar at #2 singles 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for UC.
Jaclyn Jewell matched was halted in the second set.
The Patriots will return to the court Sunday, April 22, when they face top-seed and fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson, who defeated Cumberland 5-0, in the championship match of the MSC Tournament. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Warren East High School
