Campbellsville, KY – UC Baseball would fall in game one on Saturday to the Tigers of Campbellsville before winning game three, winning the series two games to one in the Patriots' regular season finale. Cumberlands would drop game one 13-6 before earning another 3-2 win in game three to secure the series victory, meaning UC won every regular season series against MSC competition. The split on Saturday moves UC to 44-7 overall on the year and 14-2 in Mid-South Conference play.
Game one's start would go to
Zach Hurley, who would earn another no-decision in this contest. Campbellsville would strike early, plating four runs in the opening inning including a two-run double by David Montoya to push the Tigers out front 4-0. UC would respond in the third as
Alex Dominguez would bomb a three-run shot down the left field line, his sixth home run on the year, to cut the lead to 4-3.
In the fifth, the Patriots would take the lead on a two-run single by Dominguez through the right side, giving him five RBI in the contest and the Patriots a 5-4 lead. Cumberlands wasn't done in the frame, adding another run on a bases loaded double play, giving UC a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning though, the Tigers would answer with a solo home run from Logan Roberts, making it 6-5 Patriots through five complete.
Campbellsville would then get their offense going, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh and four more in the eighth, including a three-run home run from Montoya to give Campbellsville a 13-6 lead, the eventual final score.
The loss went to reliever
Manny Castellano who went 2.0 innings allowing seven runs (five earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out two. Hurley received the no-decision after 5.0 innings of work, giving up five earned runs on nine hits and two walks while fanning just two.
Game three saw UC give starter
Anthony Martinez the run support he needed in the opening two innings of the seven-inning contest. In the opening frame, it was
Raudy Martinez going deep for a solo home run, his 14
th on the year, giving UC a 1-0 lead. The Patriots added two more on a two-run home run in the second off the bat of
J.C. Santos, his seventh of the year, to make it 3-0 UC.
Campbellsville would attempt to cut into the lead late in the game. A solo home run from Logan Roberts in the sixth made it 3-1 before Chris Taitague added on with a solo home run himself in the seventh to make it 3-2, but Campbellsville could not bring any other runs in, giving UC the one run in in the series clincher.
Anthony Martinez would get the win as he went the distance (7.0 innings), allowing two earned runs on seven hits and a while striking out one.
UC returns to action on Thursday, May 3
rd at Bowling Green Stadium, home of the Bowling Green Hot Rods, as they play in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The Patriots will take on the winner of the of the #4-#5 seed game at 6 pm central time.
