Patriots Men’s Tennis Blanks Georgetown in MSC Action

Georgetown, KY – The UC men's tennis team returned to conference play in dominating fashion as the defeated Georgetown 9-0 Sunday afternoon at the GC Tennis Court. With the win the Patriots improve to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in MSC play, while the Tigers move to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Rodrigo Ratte and Eric Banoub got things started with an 8-1 win over AJ Berk and Phillip Hoeper at #3 doubles.  With the win Ratte and Banoub improve to 8-4 at #3 doubles and have won three matches.  Yusuke Matsuoka and Martin Barbier extend UC's lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 win, before Aatu Merenheimo partnered with Luis Montull for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles to give Cumberlands a 3-0 advantage.   

UC carried the momentum into singles play as Ratte and Banoub won in straight sets at #5 and #6 singles, respectfully, to clinch the match for the Patriots.  Montull followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win at #3 over Hunter Nosek to extend the lead to 6-0.  Merenheimo and Matsuoka each won in straight sets giving UC an 8-0 edge.  At #1 singles, Barbier won the first set 6-0 over Ryo Takeda.  Takeda took the second set 6-3, however Barbier rallied to win the third set 6-4 and complete the sweep.

The Patriots will return to the court Wednesday, April 11, when they host 11th-ranked Campbellsville. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
