Campbellsville, KY – The UC softball team was limited to a combined eight hits as they fell to fourth-ranked Campbellsville 9-0, 8-0 Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the wins the Tigers improve to 28-4 overall and 11-1 in MSC play, while the Patriots move to 11-21 and 4-8 in conference play.
Jacqueline Roof led off the game with a single and scored on an Alexis Smith RBI single to give Campbellsville an early 1-0 lead.
Cumberlands looked to tie the game in the second as Haley Kilburn drove a one-out double to right field.
Coari Robertson pinch-ran and advanced to third however UC was unable to score as the Tigers got out of the inning. Campbellsville added a run in both the second and third inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Campbellsville plated four runs in the fourth, before Roof hit a two-run homer in the sixth for the 9-0 final.
Kilburn led the way for the Patriots going 2-3 with a double, while
Kailin Yantz,
MiKayla Vires, and
Morgan Ellis each notched a hit.
The second game started similar as Campbellsville tallied a pair of runs in the first. The Tigers plated three runs in the second and a run in third to extend their lead to 6-0.
Cumberlands looked to rally in the fourth as
Madison Huber drew a one-out walk.
Hannah Stephenson followed with a double to center to give the Patriots runners in scoring positions. However the Tigers were able to get out of the inning keeping the score 6-0.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the fifth as Tori Humphrey led off the inning with a solo homer. Kailin Bottoms drew a walk and scored on a Jordan Ison double to give Campbellsville the 8-0 win.
The Patriots will return to the field Tuesday, April 10, when they travel to Pikeville, KY for a doubleheader with the Tigers. First pitch set for 1 p.m. with live stats are available
