Georgetown, KY – The UC women's tennis team rallied in singles play, however it wasn't enough as the Patriots dropped a conference match 5-4 to (RV) Georgetown Sunday afternoon at the GC Tennis Complex. With the win the Tigers improve to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Patriots move to 6-9 and 2-2 against the MSC.
Georgetown struck first with wins at #3 and #2 doubles to take an early 2-0 lead. UC battled back as
Tomomi Nagao partnered with
Jaclyn Jewell for an 8-5 win over Amanda Moore and Lauren Fazenbaker at #1 doubles to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Marian Bogajo notched a 6-4, 6-3 win at #5 singles to even the match at 2-2. Georgetown reclaimed the lead with straight set wins at #3 and #6 singles. Cumberlands continue to fight as Nagao dropped the first set (4-6) at #1 singles before rallying to win the next two (6-3, 6-3) to cut the deficit to 4-3. At #2 singles, Jewell knocked off Shae Henry 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 to tie the match at 4-4. After dropping her first,
Denee Lyttle won the second set 7-6 to force a third set. In the third set the two players traded points and forced a tiebreaker which Madelyn Kauffman won 7-6 to clinch the match for the Tigers.
The Patriots will return to the court Wednesday, April 11, when they host 18
th-ranked Campbellsville. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
