Georgetown, KY – Three Patriots netted goals to help the UC women's soccer team secure the first conference win of the season over Georgetown Tigers Tuesday night by a score of 3-1. With the win UC pushes their overall record to 10-1 and MSC record of 1-0.
 
From the first whistle UC looked to get on the board early, however were unable to convert in the early going. UC outshot the Tigers 10-1 over the next ten minutes, pressuring the defense and the goalie. In the 28' minute, Jenna Rockwell found the lower left corner of the net from a Sara Randez assist for the 1-0 lead. The Pats remained in control going into the half with a 1-0 lead.
 
Coming off the break, the Tigers scored the equalizer as Grace Whalen scored off rebound save, tying the score at 1-1. The Patriots took control back firing off five shots in six minutes when Hannah Truckenmiller stole the ball from a defender and placed into the upper left of the net, giving UC the 2-1 lead. Five minutes later, UC extended their led off an Alanna Skinner corner kick as Jody LeMaster headed the ball to Emma Chambers, who put in just inside the near post to give UC a 3-1 advantage. Cumberlands remained in control of possession the rest of the half for the 3-1 win.
 
In the match Christie Funk recorded three saves for her tenth win. This is marks the second straight game that Skinner and LeMaster both tallied an assist. UC dominated in overall shots 30-6.
 
The ladies return to action Tuesday, October 2 when they face MSC rival Lindsey Wilson. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the UC Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Live stats is available here and live video is here.
