Patriots Finish the Regular Season with a Win; Secures Second Seed

Portsmouth, OH - The 19th-ranked UC women's soccer team finished out their regular season on Friday night with a 5-2 win over Shawnee State. Cumberlands tallied multi-goal performances from Anihoa Camara and Micha Harris to help the Patriots improve to 7-1 in conference play, 12-2-1 overall.  With the win UC clinches the second-seed in next week's Mid-South Conference Tournament.

The first half opened with a back-and-forth battle for possession, but UC took advantage of a goal scoring opportunity in the 18'. Alba Lorca connected with Shara Randez, who found the back of the net to give the Patriots the first lead of the match. The Bears responded 22 seconds later with a rebound goal to even the score at one all. With 9:14 remaining, Camara shot the ball past the Bears' goalkeeper to put UC up 2-1 headed into halftime.

Shawnee State came out of the second half looking for an equalizer as a foul in box set up a penalty kick, however, Nicole Panis stopped her first career penalty kick to keep the score 2-1.  A speedy Camara got the second half started the same way she ended the first half with a goal. Just as UC took a 3-1 lead, Harris received a punt from Panis to dribble downfield and score her first goal of the night to give Cumberlands the 4-1 advantage. The Bears refused to go scoreless in the second half and they added to their score in the 81' making it a 4-2 game. However, Harris sealed the deal for the Patriots; with five minutes remaining she found the net to make the final score 5-2.

In the win, Camara and Harris recorded the first multi-goal game of their careers. Panis finishes with three saves and an assist.

The Patriots return to action Thursday, November 7, when they travel to Bowling Green, KY for the MSC Tournament. Cumberlands will face seventh-seed Shawnee State in a rematch at 6:00 pm EST. Live stats will be available here.
