Patriot Football Six Point Preview vs. Lindsey Wilson

11/14/2019 4:36:00 PM

Williamsburg, KY – The Patriot Football has made its way to the regular season finale and are in position to make some more history this weekend. After a 45-31 win on the road last week at Thomas More, the eighth-ranked Patriots enter Senior Day weekend against the seventh-ranked Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College with the chance to check off a number of goals including an undefeated regular season and the program's eighth MSC Championship. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM Saturday afternoon. With kickoff just around the corner, here are six things to watch for in this weekend's contest.

  1. Protect the football.
Lindsey Wilson has been outstanding this year when it comes to turnover margin. At +21, the Blue Raiders are near if not at the top of the NAIA with that margin. UC is currently +4 on the season. You must protect the ball this week and not allow any giveaways from fumbles or interceptions because Lindsey will generally take advantage of them.

  1. Slowdown their high-powered offense.
The Blue Raiders are not 9-0 for nothing. Averaging over 460 yards and nearly 46 points per contest, Lindsey Wilson's ranking of seventh in the NAIA is definitely merited. Quarterback Cameron Dukes averages 300 yards of offense himself this season including four scores per contest. You must slow him down in order to give yourself an opportunity to win the ballgame.

  1. Continue your trend as one of the best defenses in the NAIA.
How do you slow down Dukes? Containment, blitzing, and coverage. Contain him from getting outside of the pocket and let your defensive linemen do their job which they have done all season long. Use a number of blitz packages yet again to mix up the looks that Dukes gets in the game. Be ready to cover a plethora of different wide receivers, but keep them in check. Six different wide outs have caught at least three TDs this season for LWC, so be prepared.

  1. Have a breakout game from your backfield.
Last week, quarterback Josiah Robbins had another stellar game, throwing for over 300 yards with five scores. A breakout game from a running back this week could be just what is needed for UC to vault over the Blue Raiders in the end. It may not all come from one running back as well. If it takes more than one back to get it done, then let it ride. There is a reason why UC has always been known for its ground-and-pound style in the past.

  1. Make the game-changing play.
Force a fumble that stalls the drive. Break away for a big score. Swat away that deep ball to prevent a touchdown. Pin them deep with a great punt. Come up big with a sack that puts them in a third and long situation. Make that big play that changes the game. Don't stop at one though. Make multiple plays and continue to come up big for your team.

  1. Play Patriot football.
Both teams looks to finish out a blemish-free regular season. Both teams are looking for a MSC Bluegrass Division Title. Both teams are looking to carry the momentum a win would have into the NAIA Football Championship Series. Come out and play Patriot football. Use that drive, grit, and tenacity you have inside to push yourself farther than you have all year long. This is the week you and your football brothers have waited for all year long. Again, it's simple. You're your game and the rest will take care of itself.
