Box Score Bowling Green, KY – The UC volleyball team season came to an end as they fell to third-seed Georgetown 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-13) Thursday afternoon at the Bowling Green Arena. After the game UC conclude their season with a 17-13 record.
The Patriots got a kill from
Leah Crist and an assisted block by Abbie Gender and
Mackenzie Koch to cut the deficit to 3-2 to start the first set. Gerorgetown used two four-point runs coupled with a three-point run to take an 13-5 lead. The Patriots tried to rally getting kills from Genders and
Ashley Sobocinski, however UC still trailed 19-10. Georgetown tallied six straight points to take the first set 25-10.
UC dug themselves into a 5-1 hole to start the second set. Genders cut the deficit to 5-3 with a kill and block, but the Tigers added four unanswered points to take a 9-3 advantage. The two teams traded points until Cumberlands went on a 3-1 run to cut the deficit to 18-12. That was the closest the Patriots came as Georgetown went on a 7-3 run to close out the set and extend the lead to 25-15.
Koch notched a kill to open the third set as the match was tied at 3-3. Georgetown utilized a 9-1 run to take a 13-5 advantage before UC responded with five unanswered points. During that run, Savannah Schwarz dished out a pair of assists, while Crist made a pair of blocks. Georgetown extended their lead with eight unanswered points to make it 21-10. UC got a kill from Chapman and Koch however it wasn't enough as Georgetown closed out the third set 25-13 for the 3-0 final.
Koch and Genders led the way for UC with five kills each, while the duo combined for five blocks. Crist added a pair of blocks as Schwarz dished out a team-high 15 assists.
