Williamsburg, KY – The (RV) University of the Cumberlands men's basketball team scored the first 14 points of the game en route to a 109-56 win over Miami-Hamilton Monday afternoon at Randy Vernon Court. With the win the Patriots improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Harriers move to 8-6.
Tevin Olison paced the Patriots with 25 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Hunter Bode set a new career-high with 19 points and 11 rebounds for back-to-back double-doubles, while Griggs added 18 points on 4-4 from long range.
Bri'an Brown Jahi Hinson recorded 12 and 11 points, respectfully, as
Caleb Taylor grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
Jordan Griggs and
Tevin Olison combined for the first 14 points of the game, knocking down four three's in the process. After a Miami-Hamilton basket, Olison,
Jahi Hinson and
Hunter Bode tallied the next 13 points to give the Patriots a 27-2 lead with 12:37 remaining in the half. The two teams traded buckets over the next several minutes until Cumberlands netted 11 unanswered points to extend their lead to 42-7 with 4:42 remaining. The Harriers would fight to get back in the game scoring nine points while UC would knock down just one field goal over the course of three minutes. Olison would not let the lead slip though scoring five consecutive points in the final two minutes. The Patriots would add two more baskets to have the 53-21 lead heading into halftime.
Cumberlands strong play carried into the second half as the Patriots opened the half on a 21-6 run, spanning five minutes to extend the lead to 74-27. Taylor recorded six points and six rebounds as Griggs added nine points during that run.
Hunter Bode continued his strong performance at the Cumberlands Classic with 12 points and three rebounds to give the Patriots a 90-35 advantage midway through the second half. The Harriers went on a 14-6 run, however,
Ryan Anders connected with
Chance Edwards from long range to make it 99-49 with 3:40 remaining. An
Austin Hall bucket pushed Cumberlands over the century mark for the second this weekend as the Patriots outscored Miami-Hamilton 10-7 for the 109-56 final.
It marks the first time since the 2004-2005 season that Cumberlands has crossed the century mark in consecutive games.
