Bowling Green, KY – With day one of The Midlands under his belt, Tres Leon claimed his second MSC Wrestler of the Week honor, announced by the conference office on Monday.
 
Leon went 3-1 at 149 pounds on day one of the championships in Hoffman Estates, IL against NCAA Division I opponents. He was one of two NAIA competitors in attendance.
 
The Wisconsin native tallied back-to-back pin fall wins to open Sunday's competition. In the opening round, Leon registered his second-fastest pin of the season over his Buffalo opponent at the 1:12 mark. He followed with a 4:31 mat-hit over Princeton's wrestler, ranked 14th in the country. Leon has tallied nine wins by fall so far in 2019.
 
To advance into the quarterfinals, Leon tabbed the major decision win against a Minnesota man. In the Round of 16, he rallied three takedowns and a four-point nearfall in the 11-3 major.
 
Leon last won the award in week one of the season after a 5-0, first-place appearance at the Patriot Open in November. Through his career, he has noted the award six times.
 
The senior returns to action today for day two of The Midlands, looking to advance in the consolation bracket. After, Leon returns to dual-meet action next week with the rest of the Patriot crew in Louisville, KY at the NWCA National Duals on January 10 and 11.
