Williamsburg, KY – Although the Patriots would celebrate the accomplishments and careers of four seniors on Thursday night in the O. Wayne Rollins Center, it was not the fairy tale ending they had hoped for as the 19
th ranked Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College would defeated UC 67-51. The loss moves the Patriots to 14-15 as UC will now travel for the remainder of their season.
Although UC would not hold a lead in the first quarter, they continued to keep it close. After tying the game up at 4-4, the Blue Raiders would go on an 8-2 run to jump out front by six. Cumberlands would fight back though, picking up a three from
Hannah Lawson and baskets from
Kayla Bruner and
Jasmyne Stewart to cut the lead to one 14-13 at the end of the first. In the second, Cumberlands came out with some aggression as they would take the lead for the first time in the game off of a three from
Shayla Simpson as well as a bucket from
Callia Cropp to lead 18-14 with eight to play in the half. The two teams would then trade the lead back and forth for the remainder of the quarter before the Blue Raiders would hold a two point lead at the break 32-30.
The third quarter saw Lindsey Wilson make adjustments and come out with a fire that was not there early in the game. Cumberlands struggled to keep up with energy as LWC would outscore UC 23-6 in the frame to carry a 19 point lead into the fourth quarter. Cumberlands would cut into the lead slightly in the final ten minutes, but not enough as Lindsey Wilson would earn the 16 point victory over the Patriots.
Jasmine Rhodes shined bright on senior night as she tallied 18 points to go with four rebounds and a block.
Callia Cropp added nine points while
Hannah Lawson chipped in seven points from the bench. UC shot 34.7% from the floor but just 3-12 from beyond the three point arc. They looked solid from the charity stripe, shooting 77.8% (14-18) on the night.
Lindsey Wilson's Reagan Turner went 7-11 from the line while shooting near 50% from the floor to total 23 points on the game while J'Nayah Hall notched a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. The Blue Raiders outrebounded UC 40-33 while forcing 15 turnovers and scoring 18 points on those takeaways.
