Pikeville, KY – Turnover troubles coupled with sluggish shooting early proved to be too much for the UC Women's Basketball team to overcome as the top-seeded Tigers of Campbellsville University defeated the Patriots by a final of 77-44. The loss ends the Patriots' season with an overall record of 14-17.
Nine turnovers in the first quarter along with going 1-10 from the floor set the Patriots back early as they trailed 17-6 after ten minutes of play. Campbellsville would continue their trap press defense in the second quarter as UC could not find an answer to the Tigers. Struggling again from the field, the Patriots would take a 17 point deficit into halftime trailing 35-18.
In the third, UC would get its most prolific offensive output in the game, but it would still not be enough to cut into Campbellsville's already large lead. UC's struggles to contain the Tigers would carry over into the fourth and final quarter of play as the Tigers would extend their lead and take the win over the Patriots by 33.
A pair of Patriots led the way in scoring on the day.
Shayla Simpson scored 11 points to go with nine rebounds while
Kayla Bruner chipped in 11 points with five rebounds. UC shot just 31.4% from the floor in the contest while going just 4-14 from beyond the arc. The Patriots did outrebound Campbellsville slightly 31-30, but committed 29 turnovers in the loss.
Campbellsville was led in the game Madison Kaiser with 19 points in the game. The Tigers scored 35 points from the bench and 34 points in the paint. Campbellsville also scored 34 points off of UC's turnovers in the contest.
