Lawrenceville, GA – The 15
th-ranked UC women's tennis team earned a win at #1 doubles, however fell to top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett 6-1 Monday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Court. With the win the Grizzles improve to 7-0 on the year, while the Patriots move to 3-2.
Georgia Gwinnett notched the first point of the match with an 8-0 win at #2 doubles. The Grizzles extended their lead to 2-0 with an 8-2 win at #3 doubles, however, the Patriots rallied to prevent a sweep. The duo of
Tomomi Nagao and
Jaclyn Jewell defeated Maria Prados Cid and Tereza Koplova 8-6 at #1 doubles to cut the deficit to 2-1. That win was the fourth straight win for the partners as they improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Grizzles, who have four ranked players, won four singles matches in straight sets to make it 6-1. Nagao at #1 singles and
Mikaela Fros #3 singles didn't complete their matches due to rain for the 6-1 final.
The Patriots will remain in Lawrenceville to face Olivet Nazarene Tuesday, March 12, at 8:30 a.m.
