Webb Pitches No-Hitter in Asbury Sweep

Williamsburg, KY Jessica Webb was the Patriots stand-out of the day, pitching a no-hitter in six complete innings of work in game two. Meanwhile several Patriots had an amazing day with the bat on their shoulders as Cumberlands tallied 21 hits and 18 runs scored through the series. The Patriots comeback to an even overall record, now 8-8 on the year after the doubleheader sweep.

GAME TWO: 8-0 WIN
After 76 pitches, Webb walked off the field with the first no-hitter of the Dillender-era. Offering 45 strikes from the circle, the sophomore-transfer recorded a season-high five strikeouts in her first complete game. Webb allowed three batters a free pass to first base on balls but froze Asbury's opportunities to score.

At the plate, Hannah Stephenson highlighted the Patriots batting efforts with a two-run slam over the left field fence on the first pitch of the at-bat. Meryn Livingston was the team's heavy hitter, tabbing three of the 12 on the board, including two base-hits up the middle.

Webb opened game two of the doubleheader strong, dishing strike after strike. Five batters of the first eight at-bats went down on a third strike, two looking and three swinging. The pitcher also snagged two line-drives coming back to the circle off the bat over the eight-batter stretch.

The Eagles committed five errors in the game, two of which recorded in the second inning. Madison Huber reached first on an error and a single to shallow center put Acacia Gray on as well. Emily Jasper surprised Asbury with a bunt, which would have made the third out if the fielder made a clean throw to first. Two runs scored and one more on, Stephenson squared up with the first pitch to send it over the left-field wall two bring the score to 4-0.

The Patriots loaded the bases in the bottom of the third but were unable to bring anybody around but the home team responded with a three-run rally in the fifth. Livingston led off with a single up the middle, followed by Gray's single to shallow left-center. Tori Malone, reaching on a misplayed grounder, loaded the bags once again for the Patriots. Corinne Haverland slashed a two-RBI single to right center and Jasper singled as well to load the bases again. Stephenson was credited the final RBI of the inning after a fielder's choice sent Tori Malone across the plate and into the dugout with the seventh UC run scored.

Gray stepped into the batter's box for the final time of the day in the sixth inning. While ahead in the count herself, the bases were juiced after a pair of singles and walk earlier in the inning. Gray stepped aside as the final pitch of the game got behind the catcher and allowed Maddie Sickau a safe slide into home for the walk-off, 8-0 win.

GAME ONE: 10-2 WIN
The Patriots won the first game 10-2 in walk-off fashion as well, with UC beginning the scoring efforts early by putting three runs on the board in the first, four in the second and matching Asbury's two in the third. Livingston tallied two hits, two RBIs and one scored for Cumberlands though the first game of the day while Huber tallied two hits as well, batting a single runner in.

Paige Parker got the start in the circle for the Patriots, tabbing three complete innings of work. Sidney Pennycuff came into the game in the fourth inning as a reliever, seizing three innings worth of no hits or walks allowed in her third appearance of the season.

Stephenson was walked as the lead-off in the lineup and added a stolen base to her day as well, claiming second. Sarah Biggerstaff showcased her high-caliber speed, taking first base on a dropped third strike. Sickau marched to first as well on a walk, loading the bases with no outs. An errant throw by the Asbury fielder allowed two runs to score from Gray's at bat. Livingston flew into a double play but Sickau bided her time, tagging up before the sprint home.

Jasper laid down a perfect bunt, safely reaching first base with her speed. Asbury attempted to make a play at second base off Stephenson's batted ball, but a bobble allowed the runner to reach safely and load the bases. Sickau de-threaded the softball with a booming double to deep right-center, clearing the baserunners and widening the score-margin. Sickau jumped to third on a wild pitch before Livingston batted the freshman home.

In the third inning, the Patriots responded to Asbury's two-run homer with a pair of runs scored too. Stephenson singled through the left side to bring Jenna Howell around the diamond, advancing to second herself on the throw. Stephenson stole her second base of the day, edging her way into scoring position. Biggerstaff got the sacrifice RBI, grounding to the shortstop to allow Stephenson to score again.

Huber secured the six-inning win for the Patriots, batting in Livingston to open the score-margin to eight. Livingston led off the inning with a single to left field. Huber responded with a hit of her own, slashing her third triple of the season to deep right field to bring home her teammate in the 10-2 win.
