Lawrenceville, GA – Facing the defending NAIA national champion Georgia Gwinnett, the 20
th-ranked UC men's tennis team couldn't overcome a slow start as they fell 9-0 Monday afternoon. With the win the Grizzles improve to 11-0, while the Patriots drop to 3-3.
Georgia Gwinnett notched the first point of the match with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. The Grizzles extended their lead to 2-0 with an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. At #3 doubles
Aatu Merenheimo and
Luis Montull took several games but ultimately fell to Federico Bonacia and Jose Dugo 8-5.
The Grizzles won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to extend their lead to 8-0. At #3 singles,
Luis Montull won the first set 6-0 over Dugo. Dugo took the second set 6-2 and won the tie-breaking third set to complete the 9-0 sweep.
The Patriots will remain in Lawrenceville to face Olivet Nazarene Tuesday, March 12, at 8:30 a.m.
