Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Patriots Dominate Possession in 27-4 Win Over Columbia

Columbia, SC – The fourth-ranked UC women's lacrosse team recorded 30 draw controls and limited the Kolas to 5-21 on clears en route to a 27-4 win over Columbia Monday night. With the win the Patriots improve to 7-1 on the season.

After winning the opening draw, Katie Brewer found Jaclyn Berry for a goal 20 seconds in. Brewer then found Shea West for a goal to extend the lead to 2-0 with 28:11 remaining.  The Patriots added a pair of goals before the Kolas tallied back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 4-2 with 22:19 left.  Emily Heim scored three of UC's next four goals to push the lead to 8-2.  Berry either assisted or scored six of Cuumberlands next seven goals to give UC a 15-2 lead midway through the first half.  After Columbia added a goal, Stephanie Meyer, Kelsey Fearing, and West each found the cage to give the Patriots an 18-3 lead at half.

The two teams traded goals to start the second half. Heim converted a free position goal to spark eight unanswered goals for the 27-4 final.  In that stretch Berry and Heim scored twice, while Trinity Brown, West, Brewer, and Fearing each scored once.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Heim, who finished with six goals, three assists, and a career-high 16 draw controls.  The 16 draw controls is tied for the school record with Samantha Tullar, who scooped 16 draw controls against Truett-McConnell on March 12, 2016.  Berry notched 13 points for the second straight game, while Brewer, Fearing, and West each recorded at last three goals.

Elizabeth Fladung scooped a career-high ten draw controls in the win, while Brewer and Meyer recorded three caused turnovers apiece.

UC returns to action Wednesday, March 13, when they stay in Columbia, SC and face Lourdes in a neutral site game.  The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. with live stats are available here.
