Williamsburg, KY – UC Baseball completed their three game set on Wednesday with the Falcons of Fisher College. With a great outing from starting pitcher
Adrian Comas as well as some timely hitting from the Patriots, UC would come away with a 11-4 win over the Falcons, taking two of three from Fisher over the last two days. Cumberlands improves their record on the season to 17-3.
Three scoreless innings would begin the game before the offense of Cumberlands would blow the game open. A RBI single from
Orley Arellano followed by a two run double from
Raudy Martinez made it 3-0 Patriots.
Bryan Benz would add another RBI single in the fourth to give UC a 4-0 lead. In the fifth, a double from
Robbie Stroub would bring home another run for Cumberlands to give them a 5-0 advantage.
Kevin Rolon added to the lead with a RBI single of his own to push UC's lead to 6-0 after six innings of play.
In the seventh, the Falcons would finally get their offense going as they would get to UC starter Comas. Four runs would cross the plate for Fisher as they would get to UC's bullpen as Clark would come in to finish out the inning with UC leading 6-4. In the bottom of the inning, the Patriots would respond with the long ball. With one on and one down, Martinez would belt a 2-0 pitch deep over the left field fence for his third home run of the season, pushing the lead back to four at 8-4. Two pitches later,
Jose Rojas would join the home run club this season with a solo shot over the right field fence to make it 9-4 Patriots.
A RBI single from pinch hitter
Pedro Nazario along with a run scoring on an error by the Fisher left fielder would add to the lead, giving UC a seven-run cushion at 11-4.
Nicholas Purpera would come in to finish out the game in the ninth for Cumberlands to secure the win and the series victory.
Comas would get the win going 6.2 innings allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks while fanning one. Clark would go 1.1 innings striking out three while walking one and allowing two hits. Purpera would throw a clean ninth inning walking one and striking one out.
The Patriots now go to the road to begin Mid-South Conference play as they will take on the Bears of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. The three-game series begins on Friday with a single game on Friday, March 15
th at 3 pm with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16
th beginning at 1 pm.
