Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

UC Men’s Tennis Blanks Eagles 9-0

Williamsburg, KY –  The 18th-ranked UC men's tennis teams recorded their first sweep of the season as they defeated Midway 9-0 Tuesday afternoon at the UC Tennis Court.  With the win the Patriots improve to 6-4, while the Eagles move to 7-7 on the season.  

Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub got the scoring started with an 8-1 win over Julian Lopez and David Alfaro at #1 doubles.  The win is the duo's fourth straight and improves their record to 8-2 on the season.  At #2 doubles, Jan Dietrich and Anthony Kwok posted at 8-1 win, while Aatu Merenheimo and Luis Montull notched an 8-2 win at #3 doubles to give UC a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Cumberlands strong play continued in to singles matches as Dietrich and Kwok posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at #3 and #4 singles, respectfully, to clinch the match and give UC a 5-0 lead.  Barbier extended his win streak to four straight with an 6-1, 6-2 win at #1 singles, before Montull, playing #2 singles for the first time this season, recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over David Alfaro to extend UC's lead to 7-0.

At #5 singles Max Nijssen blanked Sebastian Hernandez 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 3-1 on the season.  Miles Matthews capped of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Steven Knowles at #6 singles for the 9-0 final.

The Patriots will return to the court Friday, March 29, when they host 14th-ranked Cumberland in a MSC showdown.  The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
