Williamsburg, KY – Another trio of home runs would prove to be big for UC on Wednesday as a solid start from
Adrian Comas plus a heavy dose of offense would push the Patriots to a 13-3 run rule win over the Eagles of Alice Lloyd College, improving UC's season record to 28-4 overall.
Alice Lloyd would get scoring started with a two-run home run from Alex White in the top of the second, but the Patriots would answer in a big way in the bottom of the frame. A two-run shot from
Kevin Rolon, an RBI single from
Raudy Martinez, and a three-run home run from
Bryan Leef would tally six runs in the second for UC, giving them a 6-2 lead.
Scoring would resume for UC in the fifth as
Marquis Orozco would go deep with a three-run home run of his own, pushing the Patriots' lead out to 9-2 after five innings of play. The Eagles added another run with a solo home run from Juan Lander in the sixth, cutting Cumberlands' advantage to 9-3, but that run would quickly be replenished. In the bottom of the inning,
Bryan Benz would lead off the inning with a triple and would quickly come in to score on a balk to make it 10-3 Pats.
After a scoreless seventh for the Eagles, UC would add three runs including an RBI single by
Robbie Stroub and a game-winning two-run single off the bat of
J.C. Santos to give UC the 13-3 run-rule win.
Adrian Comas would get the win for the Patriots, moving his season record to 3-0 on the year. He would throw five solid innings of work allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six.
The Patriots now return to Mid-South Conference action on Friday, March 29
th as they host the Tigers of Campbellsville University. The three-game series begins with a nine-inning game on Friday with first pitch set for 4 pm.
