Waleska, GA – The fifth-ranked UC men's lacrosse team struggled to get anything going offensively as they fell to second-seed and top-ranked Reinhardt 12-1 in the AAC championship game, Saturday afternoon. With the win the Eagles improve to 13-1 on the year, while the Patriots move to 12-4.
Will Settle was put to the test early making four consecutive saves, in a five-minute span, to keep the game scoreless. After seven minutes of scoreless play, Reinhardt notched four goals in the opening quarter to take a 4-0 lead. The Eagles added six unanswered goals, over the next two periods to extend their lead to 10-0 after three quarters.
Reinhardt won the opening faceoff of the fourth quarter and on the possession Settle stopped a Mills' shot however the ball bounced to Gavin Banks for an unassisted goal to push the score to 11-0. UC looked for an offensive spark and found one as
Caleb Elerick connected with
Whitten McCune for a man-up goal at 6:55 mark to cut the deficit to 11-1. The Eagles added another goal to for the 12-1 final as McCune final shot was saved by Eagles' goalie Matt Webb.
Settle finished with 13 saves in the contest, while
Kody Swann went 8-16 on faceoffs with three ground balls.
Nick DiFranco and
Bryan Morgan each forced a pair of turnovers as DiFranco and
Jake Mitchell scooped three ground a piece.
The Patriots will now await the announcement of the NAIA Lacrosse Invitation, which is scheduled to be released Sunday, April 28.
