Portsmouth, OH – The 18
th-ranked UC men's tennis team dropped one game in the entire match as they swept Shawnee State 9-0 in Mid-South Conference play Saturday afternoon. With the win the Patriots improve to 10-4 on the season, pushing their win streak to six straight matches, while the Bears fall to 5-9 and 0-5 in conference play.
Eric Banoub and
Martin Barbier extended their win streak to eight straight matches with an 8-0 win over Austin Hanshaw and Jacob Freeland at #1 doubles. UC posted 8-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The tandem of
Jan Dietrich and
Anthony Kwok has now won five straight matches at #3 doubles.
Cumberlands strong play continued into singles marches as Barbier defeated Jacob Freeland 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles to improve to 11-2 overall. Montull also won his eighth straight match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Kwok and Banoub both posted 6-0, 6-0 wins to extend their win streaks to six and four matches, respectfully.
At #2 singles, Merenheimo notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Austin Hanshaw to give Cumberlands an 8-0 lead. Dietrich closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Zach Colley at #4 singles for the 9-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, April 12, when they travel to Campbellsville, KY to face the 11
th-ranked Tigers in a Mid-South Conference match. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
