Grayson, KY –
Maddie Sickau posted another day of effective hitting for the Patriots, going 3-6 at the plate on the day. Her double and sacrifice hit notched three RBIs on the team's way to splitting Saturday's doubleheader with Kentucky Christian.
The Knights took game on of the day 5-4 in a game riddled with errors on both sides of the inning. The Patriots stuck the win in the latter game, advancing to 17-13 on the season, 5-5 in Mid-South Conference action.
GAME TWO: WIN, 2-1
Sickau boosted her stats after her efforts in game two, bringing in both runs of the game and going 2-3 from the plate.
Emily Jasper also proved to be star in the later game of the day, going 3-4 from the plate before stealing a base and scoring once.
Jessica Webb also tallied another stellar day, offering two hits to the Lady Knights in seven innings. The sophomore also tied her season high strikeout count of six against her opposing batters, including three dropped in the second inning.
The Patriots put a run on the board as early as they could, tabbing the call in the third inning. With
Hannah Stephenson edging toward the plate from third, Sickau steps up with the bat on her shoulder to slug a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run.
Sickau put more insurance on the board in the top of the final inning, tacking on a single up the middle to send Jasper into the dugout with a run earned. With the base-hit, the freshman notched her 10th multi-hit game of the season and seventh multi-RBI game.
Kentucky Christian responded with a solo run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Patriots walked off with the win.
GAME ONE: LOSS, 5-4
Four of the five ladies with hits to their name tab an RBI, but run production came up short in the 5-4 loss to the Knights in the early game of the series.
Huber led off a fifth-inning rally, reaching first and second base on an error by the KCU.
Tori Malone blasted a double to bring around her teammate with her only hit of the day.
Paige Parker, getting the start in the outfield, drove in pinch-runner
Morgan Ellis with her single to narrow the game to a 5-2 margin.
Hannah Stephenson drove Parker across the plate as she reaches first in a would-be-out if the grounder was fielded cleanly. Jasper found herself on base with her fielder's choice as Stephenson was forced out. Sickau slammed a double, her sixth of the season, to deep left-center for another score. A groundout ended the rally short with the Patriots down one, 5-4.
Krystin Wilson coughed up five runs to her batters in the second inning. The rookie walked off the field after two complete frames with the loss, earning only two of the runs and one strikeout in 46 pitches offered.
Sidney Pennycuff came into the game in relief, going the final four innings in 42 pitches. The sophomore did not allow a walk over the stretch, striking out one as well from the circle.
