Portsmouth, OH – The 20
th-ranked UC women's tennis team recorded their fourth shutout of the season defeating Shawnee State 9-0 in Mid-South Conference play Saturday afternoon. With the win the Patriots improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 against the MSC, while the Bears fall to 2-14 and 0-5 in conference play.
The scoring started at #1 doubles where
Jaclyn Jewell and
Tomomi Nagao defeated Jessica Willard and Regan Osborn 8-0, to give UC a 1-0 lead. The duo improves to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Mikaela Fros and
Sydney White recorded their fifth straight win with 8-0 win at #3 doubles and improve to 4-1 in MSC play. At #2 doubles, the tandem of
Tessa Gray and
Grace Steely posted an 8-0 win to give Cumberlands a 3-0 lead heading into singles player.
The Patriots strong played continued as they earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at the #1, #2, #3, and #4 position. Nagao played #1 and improved her record to 4-1 in conference play, while Jewell posted her third straight win at #2 singles. Fros and Steely played #3 and #4 singles, respectfully.
At #5 singles, Gray extended her win streak to five straight with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Molly Stockton. White closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Regan Osborn at #6 singles for the 9-0 final. White improves her record to 2-1 on the season.
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, April 12, when they travel to Campbellsville, KY to face the 25
th-ranked Tigers in a Mid-South Conference match. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
