Grand Rapids, MI – The third-seed University of the Cumberlands women's lacrosse team outscored Benedictine 10-5 in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell 14-10 in the smifinals of the NAIA Invite Friday Afternoon at the AQ Athletic Field. With the win Benedictine improves to 17-0, while the Patriots finish with a 16-4 record.
After trailing 10-0 in the second, UC battled back as
Bella Ricchiazzi converted a free position goal at the 26:11 mark to get the Patriots on the board.
Emily Heim followed with an unassisted goal two minutes later. After a Ravens goal,
Amanda Phillips found Heim cutting towards the cage for a goal to make it 11-3 seven minutes into the second half. Ricchiazzi netted three of the next four goals as UC cut the deficit to 12-6 with 10:48 remaining. Cumberlands took advantage of Ravens yellow cards as Berry scored consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 12-6 with 8:59 left. After two straight goals by the Ravens, Ricchiazzi connected with
Shea West for a goal en route to the 14-10 final.
Ricchiazzi led the way with five goals and two assists, while Heim and Berry added two apiece. Heim, West,
Briana Kucis, and
Elizabeth Fladung each scooped three ground balls in the contest as
Trinity Brown notched a team-high four caused turnovers.
Emily Crump made saves in cage for the Patriots.
Cumberlands finishes the season with a 16-4 record and won the inaugural Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament championships.
