Fourth-Seed Rams Advance with Tenth-Inning Walk Off

Williamsburg, KY – The initial game of the NAIA Opening Round Williamsburg Bracket saw numerous defensive plays and timely hitting as the fourth-seed Mobile defeated fifth-seed Baker 5-4 in ten innings Monday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium.  With the win the Rams advance in the winner's bracket to face top-seed University of the Cumberlands tonight at 7 p.m.

Baker (26-26) came out strong stringing three singles together in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.  After back-to-back singles to start the game, Jason Chambers notched a two-out RBI single to left, scoring Brian Wircenske. 

The Wildcats added a run in the top of second inning as Wircenske hit a deep fly to right-center scoring pinch-runner Zak McAlister and extending Baker's lead to 2-0.  Baker's starting pitcher David Tulhope cruised through the first four innings keeping the Rams scoreless.

The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth as Gunner Hendrix led off with a single.  After consecutive infield singles to load the bases, Zach Presnall hit a two-run single through the left side to even the game at 2-2. 

Mobile (37-20) added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Christian Snow smacked a two-out two run triple to right field to put Mobile in front 4-2.  Baker responded in the top half of the eighth innings with a two-out two run standup double by Max Taulbee ties the game at 4-4.

Neither team was able to score in the ninth forcing extra innings.  In the bottom of the tenth Snow hit a one-out double off the wall in left-center.  After an intentional walk, Gunner Hendrix ground to the second basemen, who flipped it to the shortstop for an out, however a wild throw allowed pinch-runner Bailey Bannon to score the game-winning run for the 5-4 final.

Baker falls to the elimination bracket and will face the loser of the Indiana Tech-Lyon game Tuesday, May 14, at 12 PM.
