Indiana Tech Advances to Championship Game Strong Performance

Williamsburg, KY – Second-seed Indiana Tech continued their strong play plating the first five runs of the game and adding a late inning home run to defeat the top-seed University of the Cumberlands 10-5 in the fifth game of the Williamsburg Bracket Tuesday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium.  With the win the Warriors improve to 40-14-1, while the Patriots move to 45-9.

After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors' Javier Castaneda hit a solo shot to left field to give Indiana Tech a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Indiana Tech extended their lead to 3-0 after plating a pair of runs in the third.  Reese Olden led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base.  Glen McClain hit a double before Olden came in to score on a wild pitch.  A batter later, Jake DeFries hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Brandon Burch.

The score remained that way until the top of the sixth inning when Dossen led off with a solo home run to left to give Indiana Tech a 4-0 lead.  A pair of doubles scored DeFries to extend the Warriors lead to 5-0.

Cumberlands got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs of their own.  Kevin Rolon drew a leadoff walk.  After Orley Arellano reached base, Raudy Martinez smashed a two-run to the gap in right-center to cut the deficit to 5-2.  Bryan Leef followed with a double, plating Martinez.  Leef would come around to score off a Jose Rojas RBI single to cut the score to 5-4.

Indiana Tech responded with a run in the top of seventh, before added three more runs in the top of eighth to take a 9-4 edge.  Glen McClain capped off the Warrior rally with a two-run home run to left field.  The Warriors add another run in the top of ninth to extend their lead to 10-4.

Leef led off the bottom of ninth inning with a solo homerun to cut the deficit to 10-5, however Joe Pratt got the final two outs to preserve the 10-5 win for Indiana Tech.

Charles Dunavan got the win after pitching 5.1 innings scattering five hits and four runs with eight strikeouts.  Dunavan began the game hurling four innings of no-hit baseball. Jashaun Simon went 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the game.

Josh Avila took the loss after tossing 5.0 innings, scattering five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.  Leef led the Patriots going 3-4 with two hits and a pair of runs scored.

Indiana Tech advances to the championship game Wednesday, May 15, at 4 p.m. Cumberlands will face the winner of Mobile vs. Lyon in the elimination bracket Wednesday, May 15, at 1 p.m.
