Williamsburg, KY – Third-seed Lyon overcame a 10-0 deficit to win 18-12 over fifth-seed Baker in the fourth game of the NAIA Opening Round Williamsburg Bracket Tuesday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium. With the win, the Scots improved to 39-21, while the Wildcats move to 26-27.

After Brian Wircenske opened Wildcat action with a walk, a double play was not enough to later move Lyon out of a jam. Hunter Gudde stepped up to deliver a two-out, RBI single to right, plating Wircenske for the early 1-0 advantage.

Baker opened the second with a single and walk before a sacrifice bunt moved runners into scoring position. Wircenske took the advantage to boom a two-RBI single to right center. The bases loaded on two more singles. Gudde dug into the box and slugged himself a grand slam for his third hit of the season, boosting his squad to a 7-0 lead after two innings.

The Wildcats kept the bats moving in the third, adding three more runs. Reaching initially via error by the second baseman, Michael Owen later scored on Wyatt Logan's sacrifice fly. Gudde barreled another single, this time up the middle to score two more, totaling seven RBI on the day.

The Scots fought back to cut the deficit to 10-7 over the fifth and sixth innings. A missed catch on a fly ball to right allowed the first two runs for Lyon to score. Ryan Clack scored on Jake Michener's single to shallow right, who also scored later in the inning on an error.

In the sixth, Tanner Seibel hit a two-out single to score on a two-base error later in the inning. Alan West bats in two more runs for the Scots, plating Clack and Michener with the single down the right field line.

In response, Wircenske charted his third RBI of the day to score Bailey Pattin and put runners on the corners for the Wildcats. Michael Owen continued the two-out rally, scoring on a balk by Lyon's Jordan Olivera to move the game to a 12-7 margin in Baker's favor.

Cameron Hockle, pinch hitting for the Scots, slammed a three-run homer over the center field fence on a two-out, 2-1 count. Kylan Barnett put together a single deep down the left field line to bring around Michener from first to bring the game within one at 12-11.

The Scots scored again in the eighth as Siebel got the call to bat in Kyle West to tie the game at 12-apiece, resetting the slate. In the bottom of the inning, a one-out single by Cody Rowe gave hope for the Wildcats but was cut short as the inning ended on a double play.

In the ninth, Clack scored the go ahead run on a passed ball, giving Lyon their first lead of the day. The Scots continued to battle as the Wildcats pitching staff collapsed, adding on five more runs in the inning. Baker escaped the inning with a double play, but then blanked on their final call to score.

Michael Jorgensen garnered his first win from the mound for the Scots, not allowing a run on two hits in the final three innings. Will Edwards got the loss, also his first of the season with five earned runs on four hits.

Lyon Scots advance on, facing the Mobile Rams tonight with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Baker Wildcats closed out their 2019 season this afternoon, eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
