Sickau Sports Perfect Night in Team's 30th Win

Bowling Green, KY – The Patriots overcome an early deficit to advance on in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, beating Pikeville 3-2. Maddie Sickau went a perfect two-for-two on the day, while Jasper's two hits also boosted the Patriots to their 30th season win.

Putting some distance between them and the Bears in the fifth, Sickau stepped up to sacrifice her fly ball to score the potential winning-run. Hannah Stephenson walked her way to first earlier in the inning with one out on the board and scored on the sac-fly.

Jasper batted her second hit of the night, both times through the left side, to get on base and scoring position. Corrinne Haverland, in as the designated player, reached on error which would have ended the inning, but the bobble instead allowed another run to score for the 3-1 lead.

Jasper got the ball moving for the Patriots earlier in the evening, slapping her first hit through the left side in the bottom of the third. She stole second a few pitches into the next at bat, forcing a bad throw by the Pikeville catcher to scramble toward third on the error. Sickau lined a hard hit at the third baseman, who was unable to react and squeeze in the ball for the final out, allowing Jasper to count the tying run.

Stephenson slugged her only hit of the night as the lead-off in the first inning. Sickau followed two batters later, getting her first hit as the ball dropped into shallow left. Madison Huber and Jenna Howell each finished the day with one hit toward the victory.

Jessica Webb, starting for the Patriots in the circle, allowed a run to score in the first to give the Bears a 1-0 edge in the early going. She quickly bounced back, downing two back-to-back batters on strikes in the second. She finished the day after 5.1 innings, collecting her 13 win with two earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts.

Krystin Wilson stepped in as relief, entering the game with one runner on and the Patriots with the 3-2 advantage. The rookie pitched out of the jam and coined a save, her fourth of the season. On the way, she dished two strikeouts, including the final out of the game to walk off with the team's win.

The Patriots record their first 30-win season since 2001, when the program chalked 36 total on the year. In Cumberlands' history, there have only been four 30-win season including the 2019 campaign.

Marching on in the consolation bracket, the Patriots need to keep winning to stay in the running. They will face Georgetown tomorrow night, first pitch slated for 7:30 PM central time.
