Marvin van der Made led the Patriots men's soccer team to their first win of the season as they opened on home turf against the SCAD Bees. In the 6-1 victory, the senior had his foot in five of the goals.
Van der Made doubled up on the day, lacing two of his four shots on goal into the back of the net at the 50' and 55' marks. The attacking veteran also chalked three assists, one in the first half and two in the second.
Milan Stojanovic opened up his Patriot career with the first goal of the season for men's soccer. The team took the 1-0 lead over the Bees in the season opener into halftime. The rookie also picked up an assist in the second half on van der Made's first goal of the day.
The Patriots commanded action for a majority of the game as the back line allowed only two shots by the Bees in the first and three in the second. Quick speed and footwork by
Joel Drewery and
Sergio Infantes Castell kept UC ahead in the game.
After a close first half, the Patriots began to heat up in the second half adding five more goals made onto the scoreboard. In addition to Stojanovic, two more rookies bumped the Patriots to their first victory with clean goals off the feet of
Luis Jara Encina and
Miguel Reis at 68' and 85', respectively.
Infantes made his mark with his first goal of his junior campaign with a fantastic goal 71 minutes into the game off an assist from van der Made.
Nathan Seery added his foot on Reis' goal to pick up his first assist.
Following van der Made's goals, SCAD scored their only shot on goal of the day in the 62' mark.
Clement May, starting in goal for the Patriots, was not given the opportunity to make any more saves as the Bees remaining four shots were well off target.
The Patriots notched 22 total shots in their opening game of the season, 12 of which were on target. Van der Made tallied seven shots while Infantes looked five time toward the goal. Against the goalkeeper, van der Made led the team with four shots on goal while Infantes and Stojanovic each shot a pair on target.
