Box Score Wilmore, KY- In the 44' of the match,
Micha Harris scored the lone goal to give the 25th-ranked Patriots women's soccer team the 1-0 win against the Asbury Eagles Friday night. With the victory, UC moves to 5-1-1 on the season.
The Patriots defense came out strong, not allowing a shot in the first half. Aiding in that feat was the Patriot offense who tallied ten shots and six corner kicks over the course of the first 45 minutes. Cumberlands recorded four shots and two corner kicks during the first 15 minutes but could not connect, keeping the game scoreless. UC looked to get on the scoreboard in the 20' as
Shara Randez put a shot on frame but was saved by Eagles goalkeeper Carley Pyles. Three minutes later, UC aimed to take the lead once again as
Ryann Bryant put a well-placed shot around the keeper, however, the Eagles notched a team save to keep the game scoreless. The score remained tied until late in the first half when
Alanna Skinner connected with Harris on a long pass over the top of the defense where she notched her third goal of the year to give UC a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles looked to even the score as the second half got underway but the Patriots had other ideas, winning the possession battle and firing three shots on goal in 11 minutes. Randez found herself open for a shot but deflected the ball high off the crossbar 23:44 into the second half. Freshman goalie,
Nicole Panis came up with a big save in a one on one faceoff in the 81' to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard. This save preserved the 1-0 shutout. Tonight's game marks the fourth time this season that the Patriots have posted a clean slate.
