Balance Scoring Leads #16 Patriots to 84-63 Win

Box Score Campbellsville, KY – The #16 University of the Cumberlands men's basketball team had five players record double-figures en route to an 84-63 win over Campbellsville Thursday night.  With the win the Patriots extend their win streak to six straight while improving to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Tevin Olison led the way for Cumberlands with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jahi Hinson provided 16 points off the bench, while Ethan Snapp and Jordan Griggs finished with 15 points each.  Caleb Taylor tallied 10 points and 18 rebounds, including 10 in the first half, for his ninth double-double of the season.

Cumberlands came out strong as Tevin Olison connected with Ethan Snapp for a three followed by a Caleb Taylor layup put UC ahead 5-0.  Jordan Griggs added a triple before Campbellsville went on an 8-0 run to take a 11-8 lead five minutes into the first half.  The two teams traded baskets and the Tigers led by as many as seven points, however the Patriots rallied as Snapp hit from behind-the-arc twice, while Jahi Hinson converted a field goal to make it  25-24 deficit with 7:02 remaining.  Four minutes later, Griggs and Hunter Bode hit consecutive baskets to even the score up at 32-32 with 2:50 remaining. Those two score sparked a 10-0 run for Cumberlands to close out the first half with a 38-32 advantage.

Hinson and Olison converted back-to-back buckets as part of an 11-2 run to extend the Patriots lead to 49-37 with 14:48 remaining.  Minutes later Snapp and Griggs each hit from long-range to push Cumberlands lead to 55-41.  On UC's next possession Taylor netted his tenth point of the game for his ninth double-double of the season, which is the most for a Patriot since the 2008-09 season.  The two teams traded buckets over the next five minutes as Olison pulled up from the paint to make it a 70-58 Patriots lead with 6:25 remaining.  UC closed out the game on a 14-5 run, including four points from Hinson for the 83-63 final.

Cumberlands finished with 42 points in the paint and shot 47.8% from the field in the win.

The Patriots will return to action Saturday, January 18, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face (RV) Lindsey Wilson. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m. with live stats will be available here and live video available here.
