Noblesville, IN – Patriots women's golf competed in day one of the IWU Fall Invitational on Friday, shooting an 18-hole of score of 322 (+34) in their third event of the season. Round one's performance puts the Patriots at third on the leaderboard, eight strokes out of the lead.
Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor University both carded team scores of 314 (+26) to tie for the lead after round one.
Viviane Braun led the Patriots in day one, clubbing a 76 (+4) in a performance that included a duo of birdies on holes one and five. Braun's score places her at fourth heading into day two, one stroke out of the first-place spot which is currently a three-way tie.
A pair of strokes behind Braun,
Carlee Shoemaker mans the fifth-place spot after tallying a 78 (+6). Shoemaker clubbed a pair of birdies on the seventh and 18
th holes. Elsewhere in the top ten,
Lucia Pena notched a 79 (+7) in round one, tying her for seventh.
Senior
Hannah Griffith carded an 89 (+17), tying for 28
th overall.
Jordan Comer rounded out the team total, shooting a score of 92 (+20) to place 31
st.
Individual golfers
Morgan Owens-Lewis and
Elena Hortian both notched an 85 (+13) in the first 18, tying them for 21
st. Owens-Lewis shot two birdies, but was hindered by back-to-back double bogeys on holes 10 and 11.
The Patriots return to Purgatory Golf Club tomorrow, Saturday, October 17
th for the second round of the IWU Fall Invitational.
