Williamsburg, KY –For the second straight game, the 15
th-ranked UC men's basketball team avenged a loss from the 2019-20 season as they had four players in double figures in the 81-56 win over Milligan Tuesday night on Randy Vernon Court. With the win, the Patriots improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Buffaloes fall to 0-1.
Mayot led the way for UC with 13 points and 16 rebounds for his first double-double as a Patriot.
Steven Fitzgerald netted 12 points, while
Jahi Hinson and
Josh Williams finished with ten points apiece.
Tevin Olison dished out a team-high six assists.
The two teams traded baskets ver the first six minutes of the game with the score tied 10-10. A minute later,
Kahlil Davis hit a jumper to spark an 11-0 Patriots run, which was capped off by a three-pointer from
Isaiah Payton to give UC an 21-10 lead midway through the first half. Stephen Fitzgerald and
Tevin Olison combined for three triples for UC, giving the Patriots a 30-16 advantage with 5:49 remaining. Cumberlands utilized an 8-0 run to close out the first half and take a 42-20 lead into the break.
The Patriots strong play continued in the second half as they opened on a 10-4 run getting five buckets from five different Patriots. Milligan used an 8-1 run to cut the score to 53-32 before Olison connected with
Josh Williams from long range, one of his to three's in the game, to make the score 56-32. The Buffaloes outscored UC 14-7 over the next six minutes to cut the lead to 63-46 with 8:04 remaining. Cumberlands responded as
Austin Hall hit from long range, while Fitzgerald added four straight points pushing the lead to 70-46. Mayot and Fitzgerald combined for nine of UC's final 11 points in the 81-56 victory.
Cumberlands shot 44.4% from the field and outrebounded Milligan 53-33. UC also tallied a season-high ten steals in the win.
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, November 6, when they take part in the Campbellsville Classic. UC will face cross-town rival Union at 5:30 with live stats available
