Williamsburg, KY- The win streak continues for the (RV) Patriots women's basketball team as they took down the Georgetown Tigers 82-66, on Tuesday night. Improving their overall record to 7-0, this marks the best start in program history since the 2003-04 season when then-Head Coach Melissa Irvin led the Pats to 21 wins before their first loss. In addition to extending its win streak, Cumberlands notches a perfect 3-0 record in the Mid-South, while Georgetown falls to 1-2 (0-1 MSC).
Â
Winning the opening tip-off, UC took advantage of the early possession as
Silvia Veloso got her team on the board with a bucket in the paint. After back-to-back three pointers, Georgetown began to distance themselves from the Pats, but a good shot by
Channing Lewis from behind-the-arc snapped that run and brought the score to 16-14, UC down two. Back-and-forth action ensued but
Carla Covane got the last shot of the quarter to bring the Tigers' lead to 21-19.
Â
Cumberlands found their defensive rhythm as the second quarter got underway, holding Georgetown to just three points through the first 5:25 of play. While the defense locked down on the Tigers,
Abbi Douglas,
Hannah Lawson,
Lillie Hall, and Lewis got to work racking up points to give UC the lead 31-24 with 4:35 remaining. The Patriots offense scored on the last six of their eight possessions to head into the locker room with an impressive 45-30 lead. Cumberlands shot 57% from the field and hit 4-7 from behind the arch. The defense held GC to 4-13 from field goal range.
Â
Coming out of halftime, UC picked up right where they left off, hitting three-straight long shots from behind-the-arc to extend their lead to 24 points. The final points of the third quarter came as free throws;
Olivia Federle hitting a pair before Veloso knocked down both of hers. Douglas wrapped up the free throw contest to end the quarter 66-48, advantage UC.
Â
Georgetown looked to mount a comeback in the final quarter, racking up seven points in their first couple possessions, but with back-to-back buckets Veloso helped to maintain the Patriots' lead as the clock dwindled to zero. Allowing only four points in the final three minutes of play, the Patriots reigned victorious at the final buzzer. With an 82-66 victory over the Tigers, Cumberlands remains undefeated in the Mid-South ahead of their highly anticipated matchup with Shawnee State later in the week.
Â
Veloso and Lawson led the way for Cumberlands tallying 14 points apiece. Three other Patriots finished in double digits, as Douglas, Lewis, and C. Covane combined for 34 points. Douglas and Lewis pulled in six rebounds each while Douglas added four assists to the game.

The Patriots take the court again on Thursday, December 31, when they travel to Ohio to take on conference rival and seventh-ranked Shawnee State. With tip off set for 1:30pm, live stream will be available
