2/1/2020 10:15:00 PM

Box Score Williamsburg, KY – The 16th-ranked Patriots men's basketball extended their impressive win streak by defeating Oakwood University 80-67 Saturday night at Randy Vernon Court. The win marks ten straight for UC, their longest win streak since the 2012-13 season, while improving their overall record to 18-4. The Ambassadors fall to 5-16 overall on the season.

The Patriots lit it up from beyond the arc, dropping 12 threes, including six from Tevin Olison, who led all scorers with 26 points. Ethan Snapp also managed a 20 point performance, splashing five triples. Caleb Taylor edged out a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.  That was Taylor's 12th double-double of the season, which is the most by any player under Head Coach Don Butcher and the fourth most in the NAIA this season.

Taylor and Olison opened up the first half for the Patriots, each draining a field goal within the first 1:30 to make it 4-0. For the next five minutes, the Patriots managed an 8-4 run that included three trips to the free throw line and a pair of back-to-back threes from Olison. Heading into the last 10 minutes of the first half, Oakwood had managed just three shots from the field.

With 7:56 to go in the half, a Snapp triple gave the Patriots a 22-9 lead, their largest of the game. Oakwood splashed back-to-back threes within the final 3:30 to cut the Patriots lead to five before a Taylor shot in the post ended the run. Three free throws in the final minute of the period gave the Patriots a 31-25 lead headed into the break.

The Ambassadors came out of halftime firing, scoring eight straight points thanks to a field goal and two straight threes to take their first lead of the ballgame, making it 33-31. At the 15:55 mark, Snapp splashed a step-back three followed by another triple from Olison as the Patriots regained the lead.

The Patriots continued to light it up from beyond the arc, hitting five straight threes, including three from Olison in a 15-4 run that spanned two minutes. UC held a double-digit lead with 12:41 remaining but Oakwood fought back, going on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to seven entering the final 10 minutes.

Snapp and Olison both nailed three pointers over the next two minutes to extend the lead back to 10 for UC. The Ambassadors would only come within eight points for the remainder of the contest, despite heavy defensive pressure. The teams exchanged free throws for the last four minutes of the contest as the Patriots went on to win 80-67.

The Patriots look to extend their win streak to 11 next Thursday, February 6th as they return to MSC play against the Eagles of Life University. Tip-off from The Eagles Nest in Marrietta, GA is slated for 8PM.
