Harrogate, TN – The UC men's tennis won all three doubles matches and two singles matches but were unable to overcome the Railsplitters in a 4-3 loss against NCAA DII Lincoln Memorial in their season opener Saturday.
The Patriots swept all three doubles matches against the Railsplitters starting with
Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub defeating Iker Moure and Jake Tuchman 6-2 at #1 doubles.
Taiki Umeda and
Sjoerd Nijssen took down Nic Goslar and Xavier Marti 6-3 in the #2 match.
Mattis Le Montagner and
Jan Dietrich finished out the doubles matches with a 6-3 victory against Sebastian Colla and Fabian Sjokvist to give Cumberlands a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
UC extended their lead to 2-0 in singles play as second-ranked Barbier notched a 6-1, 6-3 win over Moure at #1 singles.
Luis Montull followed suit against Sjokvist with a 7-6, 6-4 decision, giving UC a 3-0 lead.
Newcomer Le Montanger battled against Colla in the #3 singles but was defeated by LMU's Colla 5-7, 6-2, 11-9 in a three set showdown. UC dropped the next two as Marte defeated Dietrich 3-6, 2-6, and Goslar took down
Anthony Kwok 7-5, 7-5 to tie the score up a 3-3. Tuchman clinched to win for the Railsplitters in a 6-0, 6-2 victory over
Christian De la Fuente.
The Patriots will return to the court on Friday, February 7, when they travel to Boca Raton, Fl to face Keiser. First serve is set for 1 pm.
