Pats Drop Season Opener to Lincoln Memorial


Harrogate, TN – The UC women's tennis won two of three doubles matches as well as two singles matches but were unable to overcome the Railsplitters in a 4-3 loss against NCAA DII Lincoln Memorial in their season opener Saturday.

UC #1 doubles team Jaclyn Jewell and Tomomi Nagao picked up the first win for the Patriots in a 7-6 (7-5) win over Julia Valls and Johanna Delisse.  Grace Steely and Hana Shimeno secured the point for Cumberlands with a 7-6 (8-6) victory over Amanda Dahlstrom and Kiersten Waugh. LMU took the final match to avoid the sweep as Samantha Hogan and Kristin Vogel defeated Honanna Beckman and Mikaela Fros 4-6 to set the score at 1-0 Patriots.

LMU even the score at 1-1 with a straight set win at #3 singles.  The Patriots retook the lead as Nagao started off the singles matches notching a 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 win over Delisse, making it 2-1 Cumberlands. Freshman Satsuki Mitani earned her first collegiate win for the Patriots with a victory against Vogel 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 to extend the lead to 3-1.  LMU evened the score at 3-3 with wins at #2 and #4 singles.  At #6 singles, Steely won the first set 6-3, however dropped the next two sets as Lincoln Memorial clinched the match 4-3.

The Patriots will return to the court on Friday, February 7, when they travel to Boca Raton, Fl to face Keiser. First serve is set for 1 pm.
