Barbourville, KY - The 20
th-ranked University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team traveled to Barbourville, KY on Sunday afternoon. Patriots won a pair of doubles matches and three singles matches to secure the 4-3 victory over the tenth-ranked Union Bulldogs. With the win the Patriots improve to 3-2 on the season. Â
Starting with doubles, the pair of
Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub took down Union's Lois Castellon and Mark Kuhnel in the #1 doubles spot, 6-3. The #2 doubles team of
Luis Montull and
Anthony Kwok secured the doubles point with a 6-1 victory.
Sjoerd Nijssen and
Taiki Umeda finished out doubles play conceding to the Bulldog's #3 team, 6-2.
In singles play, second-ranked Barbier got the competition started with a win over the 11
th-ranked Castellon in the #1 singles position 6-2 and 6-4. Montull also went two-for-two on the day with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Sebastiano Zorzi in the #2 spot. Patriots claimed victory over Union in four straight points with a win from
Mattis Le Montagner 6-2, 6-1 at #3 singles. Kwok and Nijssen were taken down over the weekend in the #4 and #5 spots, respectively. Patriots had clinched the victory, allowing Banoub to retire to Santiago Diaz giving the Bulldogs their final point.
This is the third consecutive match in which the Patriots have claimed victory by scoring the first four points of the match. The doubles team of Barbier and Banoub have now won four-straight matches to remain undefeated on the season.
The Patriots play again on Friday, February 29, when they head north to take on Midway in Lexington, KY. The first serve is set for 9am.Â
