Babson Park, FL- The Cumberlands men's tennis team dominate Webber International in a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. In a complete sweep of the Warriors, the Patriots forced three forfeits, one in the #3 doubles match and two in the #5 and #6 singles matches.
UC began their conquest of the Warriors with back-to-back wins in their #1 and #2 doubles match to secure the point for Cumberlands. Eric Baoub and
Martin Barbier won the #1 doubles match 6-3 over Ivan Bondarenko and Kyle Hall.
Luis Montull and
Anthony Kwok got the next dub for UC as they took down Matthew Alexander and Marc Schneider 6-1. With the point already secured, Webber forfeited their #3 match in which
Jan Dietrich and
Sjoerd Nijssen were slated to play.
The singles matches looked similar to that of the doubles matches as the Patriots won four in a row to complete the victory sweep. In the #1 match, Barbier defeated Bodarenko 7-5, 6-3, while Montull overcame Alexander 6-4, 6-4, to put the score at 3-0 in favor of the Pats. Only needing another win to seal the deal, Banoub came through with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Webber's Schneider. Kwok and Hall were playing when the match was secured, causing Hall to retire the game at 6-1, 1-1. Nijssen and
Patrick Pereira both posted their first wins of the season at #5 and #6 singles, respectively.
The Patriots will return to the court on Sunday, February 16, when they travel to Danville, KY to faceoff against Centre College. The first serve is set for 9am.Â
