Babson Park, FL – The 17
th-ranked UC women's tennis team recorded straight sets wins in all six singles matches in addition to taking the doubles point to defeat Webber International 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Patriots improve to 1-2 on the year, while the Warriors move to 0-3.
Tomomi Nagao and
Mikaela Fros got things start for the Patriots with a 6-1 win over Lily-Rose Rochat and Jenna Fosdick at #1 doubles.
Satsuki Mitani and
Tessa Gray clinched the doubles point for UC as they posted a 6-0 win at #3 doubles. Webber went on to win #2 doubles, however Cumberlands took a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Nagao continued her strong start with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Isabelle Niehoff at #1 singles to remain undefeated and extend the Patriots lead to 2-0.
Hana Shimeno and
Johanna Beckmann recorded their first collegiate win as a Patriot with wins at #3 and #6 singles, respectfully. Shimeno defeated Fosdick 6-0, 6-1, while Beckmann tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win over Cheyenne Cannor to clinch the match for UC and give them a 4-0 lead.
Fros followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rochat at #2 singles, before
Grace Steely posted a 6-1, 6-2 win for her first singles win of the season. Mitani closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 for the 7-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Sunday, February 16, when they travel to Danville, KY to face Centre College. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
