Williamsburg, KY – The 17
th-ranked UC women's tennis team return to the court Sunday with an impressive 7-0 win over (RV) Southwestern at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win, the Patriots improve to 4-4 on the season, while the Moundbuilders move to 4-4 on their season.
Cumberlands struck first taking the doubles point after winning all three matches. UC's #1 doubles duo of
Tomomi Nagao and
Jaclyn Jewell remains undefeated after recording a 6-1 win over Alexa Powers and Emilia Schorghbuber. At #2 doubles,
Tessa Gray and
Grace Steely posted a 6-2 win, while
Satsuki Mitani and Hanah Shimeno won 6-2 at #3 doubles to clinch the doubles point and give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Jewell extended UC's lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Catherine Coe at #3 singles. Nagao followed notching a 6-1, 6-3 win at #1 singles to extend the lead to 3-0. Nagao improves to 8-0 on the season so far.
Johanna Beckmann clinched the match for Cumberlands with 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles.
Mikaela Fros won 6-4, 6-1 at #2 singles, before
Hana Shimeno tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win over Powers at #4. Mitani closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win for her fifth straight win.
The Patriots will return to the court Monday, March 9, when they travel to Lawrenceville, GA to face top ranked Georgia Gwinnett. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
