Williamsburg, KY– The 13th-ranked UC men's tennis team remains undefeated at home this year with a 6-1 win over (RV) Southwestern Sunday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the victory, the team improves to 6-2 on the season.
Cumberlands struck first taking the doubles point after winning all three matches. UC's #1 doubles duo of
Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub remain undefeated on the year after earning 6-2 win over Ryan Rung and Sheldon Hawthorne. The #1 doubles team is now 8-0 this season. At the #2 doubles spot,
Luis Montull and
Anthony Kwok recorded a 6-3 win while the #3 doubles pair of
Jan Dietrich and
Mattis Le Montagner won their match 6-2, clinching 1-0 lead.
Cumberlands continued to control the court as Barbier won in the #1 singles match, 7-6, 6-3. Montull recorded his fifth consecutive victory in the #2 spot, while Le Montagner put Uc up 3-0 with his 6-3, 6-0 win in the #3 singles position.
Anthony Kwok secured the victory for the team with his 6-4, 6-4 win over Southwestern's Sheldon Hawthorne.
Sjoerd Nijssen dropped a close match that went to three sets at the #5 position, while
Christian De la Fuente made his debuting defeating Benjamin Erdmann in three sets as well.
The Patriots will return to the court Monday, March 9, when they travel to top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett. First serve is set for 1pm.
